An Arrange Marriage That Went Wrong Chapter 8

Chapter 8 Out of anger, Everlee was clueless about the speed she was walking due to the stranger who had upset her after she refused to ride along with him. She had arrived at her destination. She stopped at the gate breathing tiredly, staring at the large white house she once used to call home. She was tired, thirsty and her feet hurt. She couldn’t wait to find a seat and rest her legs.

Her bright blue eye opened wide as she saw the front door of the house opened, nervous to meet her parents after secretly leaving home and haven’t seen them for 5 years now. She was too bit nervous about meeting Paris whom she took as her big sister. She held her dress out of relief seeing it was Delilah the housemaid but was still worried that she still will have to meet them since she will be at their home. She’ll have to grow some courage to approached them.

Delilah had been working at the house since Everlee was a baby, so she knew her very well.

“Ms. Everlee,” Delilah walked hurriedly opening the gate, approaching

her.

“Good evening, Delilah,” greeted Everlee.

Delilah gave her a welcoming smile and helped her with her suitcase.

“Thank you so much,” acknowledged Everlee.

“You are welcome miss, come let us go inside,” retorted Delilah.

“Let me catch my breath first, for I have been walking a long mile to get here,” Everlee told Delilah still breathing tiredly.

“Why miss?” inquired Delilah curiously.

“I foolish forgot to write in the letter that I will need someone to pick me up from the train station,” answered Everlee.

“Well, you could have gotten a ride from anyone there who may be going the same direction as you, Delilah told Everlee. Greenfield is no

longer the safe place where a female could walk alone within the hoods. Thieves and murderers are wondering about a lot here now, and a pretty girl like you could have been raped and even murdered as well.

Everlee was frightened by what Delilah had said and felt stupid that she could have gotten murdered walking alone for foolishly not taking a ride from the wealthy stranger she believes that was only trying to charm himself into her life as most men did, but she didn’t regret every ounce of words she said to him after how terrible he dealt with her reply. She was happy she reached home safe.

“Thank you for letting me know,” Everlee told Delilah worried.

“It’s my pleasure, Miss,” she answered as they both went towards the

house.

“So, miss on your way, didn’t you see a gentleman that could kindly given you a ride?’ inquired Delilah.

“No,” Everlee lied not wanting to tell her the outcome of it. Recollecting how awfully he spoke about her and taking off gathering dust behind him that could have suffocated her. She rather not talked

about him and better forget him of how angry she was. She was here in hopes of reconciling things with her family and not to be bothered about some fool she thought to be handsome. Everlee hoped she will not see him ever again.

“Sorry,” retorted Delilah.

Everlee nodded.

“No one is here exact for baby Poppy, me, and the other workers, Delilah told Everlee. Paris had gone shopping with Mrs. Poppy and Mr. Poppy is at work.”

“Okay,” answered Everlee.

Everlee smiled eagerly to see her baby brother, Brian Poppy. Paris had written to her about him and even sneaked a picture without her parents knowing.

Everlee followed the maid inside. Everlee took notice of how exact the large house was from the day she had left. Every object and furniture of the house was the exact place she remembered them to be.

She followed Delilah to her old room.

“No one hasn’t used it from the day you left,” Delilah told her.

Everlee stood still seeing it was true. It was the same way she had left it. The only thing different about it was the change of sheet and curtain. She walked over to her bed and sat down. Her hand ran across her soft bed.

“Do you want me to unpack your suitcase?” Delilah asked her.

“No thank you,” she answered.

“Okay, I’ll be downstairs if you need anything,” Delilah told her.

“Can you please carry me a cup of water and then I’d love to see baby Brian,” Everlee told Delilah.

“Sure…,” Delilah answered smiling and left the room.

Everlee lay down on her back staring at her ceiling. She felt so strange returning home. Everything here was the same for her but as always from a younger age, she didn’t feel like she belongs that was one of the important reasons why she left.

She sat up as Delilah returned with her water along with a maid she didn’t know, holding baby Brian in her arms. Her face lightens happily to see the beautiful green eyes baby. She instructed Delilah to put her glass of water on the bedside table while she went to take the baby from the next maid.

Baby Brian yarned tired, and his eyes slowly closed.

“He’s tired and is about to take his nap,” the maid told Delilah.

Everlee nodded and held him closely within his arms feeling his smooth and chubby body.

“You’re a beautiful baby boy,” Everlee whispered over his head as he

went to sleep.

“It saddens my heart that you’re tired and I can’t hold you in my arms a bit longer,” said Everlee.

She kissed his forehead and gave him back to the maid. She stared at her beautiful brother as the maid took him away. Just holding baby Brian for a few minutes made Everlee realize that probably one day she’ll want a baby of her own, but she doesn’t know when for she was not interested in marrying any man who expected her to do whatever they pleased and to be their personal maid.

She went over to sat on her bed quenching her thirst with the cup of water. As soon as she had gained all her strength from walking for so long, she went over to her suitcase, unpacked it, and began to place her clothes into her closet. She heard something fall from the folded clothes. Her head lowered staring at the floor. She spotted the small black box with the ring Mr. Fredrick had given her. The box was opened, and she got to see for the first the shiny diamond ring revealing from the box that looked very, very expensive. Quickly she placed down her clothes and took the ring from the floor and immediately hid it within her clothes. She fixed a loose strand of her silky blonde hair placing it behind her right hair and left her room heading downstairs. Everlee didn’t want to think about Mr. Fredrick now and that he was waiting on her response to marry him when she returned to New York. She was here to reconciled things with her family. She didn’t want to be bothered by his surprising proposal.
