An Arrange Marriage That Went Wrong Chapter 4

Chapter 4

Everlee stared through the window of the carriage nervously. She wished badly; she didn’t accept to have lunch with Mr. Fredrick this evening. She should have been on the first train to Greenfield, but that was another issue bothering her. Leaving home without Mr. and Mrs. Poppy’s knowledge after they had taken her in and raised her as their own when her mom had passed away, she felt so bad for disappointing them. She knew returning home today will not be easy facing any of them. She feared they will never forgive her, and she’ll return to New York lonely, no longer having them within her life. Everlee wanted to regret what she did to them, but she couldn’t. Leaving home to NY was the best thing she had done. If she never did, she would never be who she was today, an art teacher, an independent and ambitious lady. She just hoped they will forgive her that’s if she does take the last and second train to Greenfield.

Going out on a lunch date with Mr. Fredrick was a way for her to cancel the first train back home and now she’s thinking about cancelling the second and last train transportation. She felt ashamed of disappointing them after everything they had done for her. She hated she had upset them and fear to look them in the eye. Over the years she had written to them apologizing and informing them of how well she was doing in New York, but they never reply, only Paris Poppy, whom she loved as if she was her blood sister had the heart to reply to the letters, she too had sent to her. Paris response made her continue to achieve her dreams in NY, knowing she was happy with what she was doing. Paris was the one allowing her to spend her 3 months’ vacation in Greenfield, in the hopes that things could go well with her and Mr. and Mrs. Poppy. She too was excited to see her new baby brother and to hold him within her arms for the first.

“We’re here,” the coachman told her as the carriage stopped.

Everlee took a deep breath in as he opened the door for her and exhaled nervously, staring at the Italian expensive restaurant, Mr. Fredrick had invited her to. She walked to the entrance door when all she wanted to

do was to return to the carriage and go back to her small apartment where she felt safe from the eyes of men who couldn’t stop noticing her beauty. Everlee is a beautiful blonde with blue eyes. It is hard not to take notice of her beauty. She had a harmonious voice, a voice all men believed a female should have; a kind of voice that was as sweet as honey and as smooth as butter running from a hot toast bread.

When she entered the restaurant Mr. Fredrick was there sitting in his chair comfortable waiting for her. As his eyes met her, he quickly stood up as a gentleman he’s always been with Everlee, giving her a welcoming smile.

“It’s good to see you’re here,” said Mr. Fredrick.

“Yes,” retorted Everlee as she fixed her blue and white dress and sat down within her chair Mr. Fredrick pulled out for her.

Everlee stomach churned uncomfortably as he slowly pushed her to the table.

Mr. Frederick was the owner of many art museums in NY, other states of America, and countries. He and Everlee met when she first came to NY. He took notice of her one day in his art museum, staring at a portrait of a happy girl. She was 18 at that time and he was a man in his late 20’s just taking on the role of his dead billionaire father. When Everlee found out he was the owner of the museum she asked him for a job as a cashier. He gave her without hesitating, charmed by her beauty and her love for art as he did. Mr. Fredrick watched Everlee as she grew into a beautiful lady and even helped her with school, by giving her a scholarship at the best art school in NY city since he played a great role there. Everlee was very thankful for his help and took him as a brother, but deep down she knew Mr. Fredrick didn’t want her to see him that way but a man of interest she would hope to marry one day.

Everlee knew she made a mistake coming here. She didn’t want to hurt his feeling in any way if he should ever try to propose to her. He had been a great source in her life and would hate to disappoint him.

“Are you ready to make your order?” a waiter came over to their table.

“Give us 3 minutes please,” retorted Fredrick.

He and Everlee began to view the menu.

“The pasta here is very delicious,” said Fredrick.

Everlee nodded. “So, how do you plan on enjoying your vacation, inquired Fredrick. If you don’t mind, I could take you to France to one of my top museums there and we could stay at a hotel that’s if you want to stay there until the end of your vacation, so what do you say?” he slowly moved the menu from his eyes staring into her bright blue eyes. At that moment Everlee knew she had to stop the dinner date and leave right now before anyone gets hurt which she was trying hard to avoid but how could she end their lunch date when he had put so much thought into bringing her here.

“I’m sorry but I’ll be returning home,” she told him.

Mr. Fredrick tried to hide his disappointment face, but Everlee could see it in his eyes.

The waiter returned and took their orders. They both ordered pasta but different beverage.

Their lunch date had become silent. Everlee was very tense as he stared at her. She thought about talking about art to feel a bit comfortable around him, but he stopped her by saying something else that was shocking to her ears.

“Everlee, he called her. I know you already know that I have hearts for you and badly wish for you to be my wife,” he told her.

Her eyes widened,

“Will you marry me, Everlee? he asked.

Everlee didn’t know what to say for she didn’t want to hurt his feeling. Instead, she got up and left.

“Everlee,” Fredrick called as he chased her.

He managed to stop her before she could get into the carriage.

“I’m not pressuring you; I would happily give you until your entire vacation to think about it,” he told her.

Everlee nodded sadly.

Mr. Fredrick gave her a small box with his ring and helped her into her carriage. He stared at her until she was out of his sight hoping when she returned, she will say yes.

Everlee didn’t love him the same way he loved her and knew she would never marry him. Sadly, she will have to break his heart when she returned from Greenfield. She believed it was better that way than to do so now and to leave him knowing he was hurting after everything he had done for her. She placed the small black box with his ring into her handbag having no interest to look at it.
