An Arrange Marriage That Went Wrong Chapter 6

Chapter 6

“I wish I had written in the letter as well for dad to pick me up,” Everlee argued with herself for being so foolish not to do so.

She was now standing at the train station in Greenfield having no ride to take her home with a heavy suitcase that was now hurting her hand. Everlee was so used to dwelling in New York and being able to get rides no matter wherever she goes, she totally forgot how Greenfield worked. Greenfield was a country area and had no transportation like, in New York. Everyone here had their own horse and carriage to go wherever they needed to go, which sucks badly for Everlee now. She was stuck at the train station with no transportation to go home.

I guess I’ll have to walk and hopefully, someone going my way could kindly give me a ride, Everlee thought as she pulled her heavy suitcase behind her.

She walked carefully along the road trying to ignore pulling her suitcase in any mud. Returning to Greenfield made her appreciate the day she secretly left home. Greenfield was not for her. It was mostly suited for farmers and people who loved the beauty of nature, listening to birds chirping every day and walking barefooted feeling the grasses. Everlee was more of a city person that’s why she left.

The road was dirty and muddy, and Everlee hardly could find a good spot to walk without messing her expensive white suitcase. Along the way, she could barely see any building but trees and grasses and fences. It made her hate Greenfield even more. Everlee could have done her studies in Greenfield but instead, she chooses to study in the city. She stopped not being able to pull her suitcase, she turned to see what was wrong and there she saw it was stuck between some dirty muddy stones. She breathes angrily and made one strong pull moving it from behind the stone and again started on her way. She had a long way to go, two hours. She was becoming hot within her long dress. She made a stop at a large tree and sat down on a large rock. Her suitcase rests carefully on the bark of the tree. She removed her hat and gloves

resting for a few minutes breathing tiredly.

If I’d known I’d never get a ride along the way, I would never have foolishly decided to walk home, Everlee thought upset.

Her head turned to the side of the tree hearing a carriage coming along the way. A smile emerged on her face, and she stood hoping she could receive a ride. The carriage coming towards her was a fine dark leather carriage with a healthy-looking black stallion. The coachman driving the carriage was well attired in his red hat and red and white suit. The person at the back of the carriage must be wealthy, Everlee thought. She knew by the look of the carriage and coachman who was well attired. Everlee hoped he will be so kind enough to give her a ride. Suddenly, her smile disappeared as she glimpsed a dark-haired man at the back of the carriage. She decided to continue her way instead of accepting a ride from him. She could barely see his face and was clueless about who he was but him being a man she was sure he’ll want to give her a ride and try to sweet talk her. Everlee had experienced it a lot in New York, and she didn’t want to experience it again, especially here.

She began to pull her suitcase putting on her hat. She walked confidently not interested in a ride from him. The carriage got closer and closer behind her until it stopped beside her.

“Miss,” Everlee heard the coachman called.

She stopped and looked at the dark-haired man at the back of the carriage now being able to see his face fully. He was handsome. The most handsome man she’s ever seen with mysterious dark brown eyes. He had the most attractive eyes Everlee had ever seen. She couldn’t help staring at him as if she was lusting over him as men did to her. It was the first Everlee had behaved in such a way and found a man so very attractive. She fought to remove her eyes from the handsome stranger as he returned her gaze and brought her attention to the coachman.

“Mr. Wealth wants to know if you’re going straight into the middle of Greenfield and wishes to give you a ride,” the coachmen told her.

“I’m fine, please tell Mr. Wealth there’s no need to,” Everlee answered confidently as her eyes went back to the very handsome mysterious stranger at the back of his carriage, through the glass window, now staring at him gravely.

Like always, Everlee thought, when men see a pretty lady, they believe they’re all damsels in distress and put it upon themself to rescue us as if we need rescuing. Everlee walked off.

The handsome dark-haired stranger opened his carriage door stopping her.

“It’s not safe for a lady to walk alone in a place like this,” his voice that sounded so powerful and attractive to her ears told her.

Everlee could see his entire body now. He was very tall and sincerely seemed like a wealthy man. He was attired in a full black suit and a light blue inside shirt that suited his white skin tone very well.

Everlee has been in this type of situation more than a hundred times walking alone in New York city, men wanting to give her a free ride as if they care about her safety when all they wanted was to get between her legs. She was now well experienced to turn down his offer of trying to take advantage of her as all men wanted with her.

“I’m no Damsel in distress so you can go along and try to pick up some lady you believe you can fool and use,” Everlee told him off harshly. The handsome brown eyes stranger looked at Everlee gravely hating her response.

Everlee returned his look, allowing him to see she was someone not to mess with. She was a difficult lady to deal with, very difficult.

“It’s a pity your attitude isn’t as pleasing as your appearance,” he answered her rudely as he shut the carriage door and instruct his coachman to drive off.

Everlee mouth opened appalled not believing what he had said.

Suddenly, she screamed and ran to the side of the road as dust made

from his carriage emerged from their fast movement.

“You’re a stupid fool!” she yelled angrily at him.

Everlee couldn’t believe what had happened. All her life she had never, never been insulted by a man like that. It was quite new to her, and she was so infuriated she wanted him to be near her again so she could slap him across his face.

“Just because you think you’re rich and good looking you believe you can talk to a female anyway you like,” she cursed along the way walking quickly to her first home.
